Planning and paying for your dream wedding is a massive undertaking. According to The Knot, the average wedding cost is $28,000, and that doesn’t include engagement or wedding rings, or the honeymoon. As such, you may find that you need a side gig to help you earn more money to pay for your dream wedding. Mark Anthony Entertainment can help you cross one thing off your list – an exceptional DJ for your big day!

Dream Wedding Planning

According to Wedding Wire, when it comes to wedding planning, there are some must-have necessities. For example, you’ll need a venue, an officiant, and a band, quartet, or DJ to help run the flow of your ceremony and reception. You may also need a caterer, a flower vendor, a photographer, a wedding cake designer, and possibly even a wedding coordinator. Let’s not forget about wedding clothing, and potentially, costs associated with an engagement party, rehearsal dinner, after-wedding brunch, along with bachelor and bachelorette parties. Couples often buy wedding party members gifts as well – all of which can add up to a pretty big total.

Finding Side Gigs

If you’re already working full-time and planning a dream wedding, you’ll likely want a side gig that is flexible but still maximizes your earning potential. You may monetize a hobby, draw on something related to your education or your profession, or consider consulting work, especially if you’re in a niche or specialty field. You may also simply look around your geographic area and see where there’s the most need for side hustles. Some cities lend themselves to a robust ride-sharing gig, while food deliveries are popular in other places. You want something that’s of interest to you, easy enough to do, and that provides you with the type of extra income you need to cover wedding expenses.

Starting a Business

Many people start out with side hustles as a way to make extra cash for a specific need, then come to learn they enjoy the gig economy and the cash it generates. You may find the work you’ve been doing to pay for the wedding has the potential to be a business venture in and of itself. If you decide to start your own company, you’ll need to form a business entity and get a business license, but before you do those things, you’ll need to ensure the name you’re intending to use for your business isn’t already in place before filing incorporation papers. You’ll also want to familiarize yourself with the filing fees and requirements in your state.

Running Your Business

Writing a business and marketing plan can help you detail and formalize all of the different aspects of your business operations, from where you will operate to whether you need to buy products, services, or inventory to get the company up and running. You’ll also want to have a social media presence, a website, and a strategy for reaching your customers. If you’re forming a home office, you’ll need equipment, as well as a business bank account and marketing materials. You can do a lot of legwork yourself, hire staffers, or utilize freelancers, independent contractors, or an advertising firm.

Managing Your Money

Of course, as a small business owner, you’ll be responsible for paying your own taxes. Make sure you keep good records, including receipts for everything that you purchase, the mileage you drive, and the expenses you attribute to running your home office. You can deduct a significant number of these costs from your taxes, which can help you save more money for your dream wedding, and beyond. It might be worthwhile to invest in accounting and bookkeeping software or to utilize an accountant who specializes in small business matters.

Planning a dream wedding is an exciting event, and having a little extra cash on the side can help make some of your decisions easier and help reduce the stress that often comes around wedding preparations.

This is a great article… as we continue to move past Covid-19 lots of Brides are picking up from where they left off a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I’m finding that more couples are working with a shoe-string budget these days. Side gigs have always been part of norm, but even more prevalent now post the pandemic. Is it more expensive now to get married prior to the pandemic?
